Position Summary:As an automation technician you will be responsible for tasks under the direction of either the Pharmacist, and or Production Manager. The position is responsible for support of pharmacy technology platforms/systems including the following: SynMed, QS/1 Systems, medication carousels, and inventory tracking system, bar coding initiatives, and all other applications that may arise. Responsibilities also includes reporting capabilities from related computer systems, monitoring controlled substance daily dispense reports, open and resolved discrepancies, and initiates investigations into unusual activity.Essential Duties include the following:The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.Sets up, adjusts, and maintains the operation of automated medication dispensing devices that support the treatment of LTC residents.Sets up, adjusts, calibrates and maintains accessories and supplies for automated medication dispensing devices.Maintains control records, collecting data on any deviation in equipment accuracy, operation, or suitability. Recognizes and notifies the Pharmacist-in-Charge of such deviations.Collecting technical data necessary for the purchase of new equipment, collecting and reporting quality improvement data in a format useful for pharmacy management and providing suggestions or other information that may be useful for improving the efficiency of the pharmacy's automated dispensing systems.Serves as the Lead Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for the Pharmacy. This involves completing and maintaining training, tracking contracts, and assisting in the preparation of requests for new equipment and supplies related to automation.Performs or schedules basic and routine service maintenance to automated dispensing devices at times least disruptive to patient care.Serves as technical advisor and trainer to other pharmacy staff and other facility department staff in the operation, calibration, and maintenance of automated pharmacy equipment and devices.Supports pharmacy staff in the use of automated pharmacy equipment involved in the packaging and distribution of medications to FHCC beneficiaries.Support and advises the Pharmacist on software/interfaces related to automation devices.When not directly involved in performing the duties of the pharmacy automation technician, the incumbent's duties will revert to those of the pharmacy technicianQualifications, Education and/or Experience:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Associate degree or degree from technical program, OR High school diploma and 1-2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, or equivalent.Certificate from pharmacy technical training program, junior college graduate or State certification as Pharmacy Technician preferred.Ethical Conduct.Ability to evaluate, analyze workflow, and coordinate work activities.Ability to independently gather, evaluate, and analyze data to generate reports and/or for other projects/statistical purposes.Knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures sufficient to train and orient new employees and other staffComprehensive knowledge of the operation and care of specialized pharmaceutical equipment.Comprehensive knowledge of the procurement and formulary process.Comprehensive knowledge of investigational drug policies and procedures.Comprehensive knowledge of controlled substance policies and procedures, and the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies in these policies and procedures.Possess the technical skills and abilities to perform and provide top notch service.Thoroughness & detail orientedMust be willing/able to work in rotating shifts which include weekends and holidays, and work during inclement weather will be required.Great communication and interpersonal skills required along with the heart and passion to work with older adults while providing the best care possibleMust have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, to be flexible, to work well with many interruptions and have skill in multi-taskingMust exhibit and promote a high level of customer service, hospitality, curiosity and friendliness towards all patients, visitors, employees and the overall facilityComputer Skills:Proficiency in Internet browsers (e.g. Explorer, Chrome, Fire Fox), as well as Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Excel, Word and Publisher applicationsWork Environment & Physical DemandsThis job operates in a health care setting. This position requires frequent standing and walking to storage shelves and filling counters to fill prescriptions. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The ability to see distinctions in colors and shapes is also required. This position is moderately active and requires standing and walking for the duration of the shift, as well as the ability to lift/move objects weighing up to 50lbs.
