Primary Role

Administer, manage, diagnose, optimize, and support the Horizon LIMS application for American Water. Develop and implement solution alternatives to meet business expectations. Function as a customer-facing technical resource. Lead the implementation of ongoing LIMS updates and upgrades.

Key Accountabilities

  • Horizon LIMS system administration.
  • Laboratory domain experience.
  • PL/SQL development.
  • Telerik Report development.
  • Data Writer development.
  • C# Instrument Parser development.
  • Knowledge of HL7 messaging a plus.
  • Identify processes for improvement, document existing processes, analyzes gaps between current processes and design new processes.
  • Develop software testing and clean-up scripts to maintain and optimize the Horizon platform.
  • May lead the implementation and roll-out of projects and/or work efforts and provides support to users.
  • Collaborates with Lab team members, providing technical expertise, to facilitate timely and accurate resolution of customer issues.
  • Performs root cause analysis when solving problems and implements solutions that will prevent the problem from reoccurring.
  • Possesses knowledge of technological trends and uses this knowledge to enhance the enterprise's competitive edge.
  • Interactions with technical vendors.

    Knowledge/Skills

    • Broad knowledge and experience related to computer systems and technologies.
    • Advanced understanding of typical design patterns.
    • Strong knowledge of common industry software development tools and platforms, in addition to free and open source tools.
    • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

      Experience/Education

      • Bachelor's Degree in a computer-related field preferred.
      • In lieu of computer-related degree, under-graduate degrees in other fields may be considered in conjunction with equivalent work experience.
      • Minimum 4 years of experience in LIMS system administration (Horizon application experience is strongly preferred).
      • Minimum 2 years of experience writing PL/SQL queries (Oracle database knowledge preferred)
      • Minimum 2 years of domain experience supporting or working in a laboratory.
      • Experience with all sized technical activities including projects and other enhancement work.
      • Experience in the development of technical standards and procedures
      • Hands-on experience with the configuration of technical business applications.
      • Experience with the utilities industry is desirable

        Travel Requirements

        • Up to 10% travel as required.
