Recreation Aide, Residential

The Recreation Aide is a seasonal position that is part of the
residential team at St. John Bosco Children's Center (SJBCC), a
trauma informed residential treatment program of Caritas Family
Solutions. This position is offered during the summer months. This
position is responsible for assisting in the design and
implementation of a recreation therapy program for the youth placed
at SJBCC during the time they are on their summer vacation from
school. Recreation Aides do not count toward the youth-to-staff
ratio except in exigent circumstances. Recreation Aides work 40
hours per week on a seasonal basis and do not accrue benefits.
Recreation Aides report to the Residential Activities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for designing and implementing a recreation program
for youth placed at the children's center.
- Responsible for building and maintaining healthy and
appropriate adult-youth relationships and modeling pro-social
- Responsible for facilitating youth activities and ensuring that
youth and staff members remain engaged in the activities.
Collaborate with the Residential Activities Coordinator to address
issues with direct care staff and neighborhood supervisors.
- Responsible for properly supervising youth and reporting
concerns to the Residential Activities Coordinator or other program
leadership if necessary.
- Responsible for reporting suspected child abuse or neglect to
the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) hotline under
the requirements of a mandated reporter.
- Must become certified in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)
or the agency's behavior management system and be willing and able
to assist other staff members in managing youth behavior including
through the use of restrictive behavior management techniques
(restraint and/or seclusion) as taught by TCI.
- Responsible for documenting unusual incidents in the agency's
electronic health record.
- Responsible for properly documenting group and individual
therapeutic interventions for the purposes of Medicaid and/or
insurance billing as required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an
individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of
the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in social work,
education; or a related human services field or five-plus years of
experience in a behavioral health, juvenile justice, childcare, or
youth educational setting is preferred. A high school diploma is
required. Experience in a trauma informed environment is preferred.
Must have a valid driver license and satisfactory driving record.
Must have own automobile liability insurance in order to transport
youth in an agency or personal vehicle. Must be at least 21 years
of age on the first day of work. Must be able to pass a required
background check, which includes fingerprinting.
