Job Description:

The Facilities Maintenance Worker II is responsible for working with the Facilities Maintenance Manager on the maintenance of Caritas buildings and vehicles to ensure smooth operations of programs. This job performs minor building, HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical and Painting repairs as necessary. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Facilities and Plant Operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain accurate records of the condition of the equipment and other systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair tasks such as replacing light bulbs, ballasts, moving furniture or equipment, plumbing issues, cleaning gutters, sidewalks and parking lots, patching walls and ceilings, painting, minimal grass/weed control mowing, repairing fences, repairing doors, etc. as directed by the
  • Facilities Maintenance Manager.
  • Monitor systems and/or work order procedures as instructed by Facilities Maintenance Manager to detect problems as early as possible.
  • Educate workers on the proper use and care of equipment and facilities.
  • Schedule or assist the Facilities Maintenance Manager with maintenance activities, including work performed by contractors or vendors. Examples of such items are the inspection of fire alarm systems, sprinkler system, boiler or water heater inspections, replacing broken windows, furnace filters, etc.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team as needed.
  • Ability to travel to various Caritas locations to conduct maintenance work or oversee vendor activities.
  • Perform other maintenance duties as requested.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma and some technical training in different types of maintenance i.e. HVAC plumbing, electrical, carpentry work, vehicle etc. Must have experience operating a variety of equipment including lawn mowers and small hand tools as needed. Ability to work well with minimal supervision and to prioritize tasks and follow specified procedures. Ideal candidate must have a valid driver's and verifiable auto insurance.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret construction drawings, plans and specifications. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts of math including ability to develop cost estimates for supplies, equipment, and develop project budgets.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Must be familiar with Microsoft office.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. May need to lift up to 50 lbs. Need to be mobile enough to work on and around machinery in close quarters.
