Chestnut Health Systems is seeking a full-time Substance Use Counselor to work at our Belleville, IL locations, servicing the Metro East and St. Louis, MO areas.

Support and model Recovery Value of Spirituality/Connectedness by maintaining positive and healthy relationships with colleagues and clients, encouraging teamwork and supporting colleagues and clients. Assist clients in finding ways to build their own spirituality and connectedness in recovery according to their own beliefs.
Demonstrate understanding of adolescent development and trauma throughout interactions with clients, assignments/homework given and expectations set.
Be knowledgeable of and adhere to ASAM criteria, SUPR Rule 2060, and DSM 5.
Conduct diagnostic and assessment evaluations with clients and their families and write biopsychosocial reports to address diagnosis and patient placement criteria as needed.
Complete Columbia Suicide Severity Risk Assessments and Vanderbilt Screenings according to policy and appropriateness.
Develop Master Treatment Plans (MTP) and determine continuing care plans with the clients.
Provide individual, family and group counseling and rehabilitation services to client and their families (all levels, including advanced or specialized therapy skills) using evidence-base practices (ACRA, CRA, CRAFT, MI, Seeking Safety) Facilitate skills and educational groups as required by the program.
Maintain thorough documentation of all services provided within the required timeframes.
Maintain regular contact with each client’s collaterals.(such as probation, family, psychiatrist) Demonstrate proficient computer skills to perform job duties.
Function as a team member, attend meetings, client staffing, participate in program development activities and provide support and backup to other team members as necessary.
Participate in professional training and educational activities in order to achieve/maintain professional development and upgrade knowledge/skills, including initial training and competencies, and achieving A-CRA/CRA certification and maintenance of fidelity according to policy.
Meet or exceed productivity expectations as determined by supervisor.
Demonstrate knowledge of and sensitivity to individual’s cultural beliefs and values.
Recognized by the Program and Clinical Directors as a peer leader to informally advise staff (clinical mentor) and provide clinical guidance to less experienced staff.
Promote Chestnut’s culture of customer service excellence through the adherence to Chestnut’s behavioral standards for customer service.
Maintain and protect confidentiality and security of all organizational information gained in the course of performing job responsibilities including, but not limited to, financial and client information.
Other duties as assigned.


Must have a Masters degree in a human services field with relevant experience and obtain a license as an LCSW, LCPC, LMFT or obtain certification as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor certification (CADC) within two (2) years from hire date.
Must be certified in Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA) within one (1) year following training.
Must be certified in Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA) within two (2) years following CRA training.
Requires basic computer skills and experience to include MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat and an electronic medical record (EMR).
Satisfactory completion of Chestnut’s background checking process.
