As a -Medical Coder, you will assign the diagnosis and procedure codes through utilization of ICD-10-CM for diagnoses and CPT/HCPCS for medical/surgical procedures. Abstract data from the medical record and enters it into the hospital information abstracting system Delivering quality care starts with ensuring our processes and documentation standards are being met and kept at the highest level possible. This means working behind the scenes ensuring a member-centric approach to care. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of clinical coding in various departments. The purpose of this position is to apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information records for data retrieval, analysis and claims processing.

Schedule: - -Sunday - Thursday or Tuesday - Saturday with set hours as established between manager and coder; may require weekend and/or holiday coverage to meet business needs as well as the possibility of mandatory overtime.
Primary Responsibilities:

• 
  
• Assigns accurate diagnostic and procedure codes according to clinical documentation and official coding guidelines for outpatient hospital accounts
  
• Monitors assigned work queues to ensure all records are charged/coded in a timely matter
  
• Generates coding queries for clarification regarding physician documentation as needed
  
• Stays abreast of all changes in coding conventions and coding updates
  
• Ability to manage significant workload, and to work efficiently under pressure meeting established deadlines with minimal supervision

  • 
    
  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
    
  • Professional coder certification with credentialing from AHIMA and/or AAPC (RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CPC, COC, CPC-P, CCS) to be maintained annually
    
  • 1+ year of hospital outpatient coding experience within a hospital setting -
    
  • Experience with ICD-10
    
  • Ability to use a PC in a Windows environment, including MS Excel and EMR systems
    
  • Ability to work 40 hours/week. Hours are flexible; will have the opportunity to choose between Tuesday - Saturday or Sunday - Thursday (1 weekend day is required)
    
    Preferred Qualifications: -
    
    • 
      
    • 1+ year of experience coding Observation and/or Same-day surgery charts within a hospital setting
      
    • 1+ year of experience coding hospital emergency department charts within a hospital setting
      
    • Experience with various encoder systems (eCAC,3M, EPIC)
      
    • CPT experience
      
    • Experience with LCD, NCD, Medical Necessity, Modifier Edits
