You’ll be: · Leading tax and accounting production across the firm · Serving as a primary advisor to business-owner clients · Managing and developing a growing accounting team · Improving processes and systems as the firm scales · Working directly with the firm owner on operations and strategy Your work will have a direct impact on clients, staff, and firm growth. This is a true leadership seat, not a placeholder role. What You’ll Be Responsible For Tax & Client Work · Review and prepare complex returns (1065, 1120, 1120-S, 1040, trusts) · Provide practical tax planning and advisory support · Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting · Maintain strong, responsive relationships with clients · Help clients understand their numbers and make better decisions Team Leadership · Lead, mentor, and manage accountants, bookkeepers, and tax preparers · Own workflow, deadlines, and quality control · Support hiring, onboarding, and staff development · Keep production moving smoothly during busy season and beyond · Serve as the go-to leader for day-to-day accounting operations Operations & Growth · Improve processes, systems, and tools for efficiency and scalability · Drive billable production at a sustainable, profitable level · Collaborate on pricing, service offerings, and client expansion · Contribute ideas and leadership as the firm continues to grow Who We’re Looking For You’re comfortable being both hands-on and in charge. You know your way around complex tax work, but you also know how to lead people, manage priorities, and communicate clearly with clients. You want more ownership, more say, and more impact than a traditional manager role offers. Required Experience & Qualifications · Active CPA license (preferred but required) · 7–10 years in public accounting with solid tax review and advisory experience · Prior leadership or management experience in a CPA or accounting firm · Strong knowledge of business and individual tax returns · Ability to manage deadlines, people, and client expectations · Clear, confident communication style · Experience with UltraTax CS, Accounting CS, and QuickBooks is a plus · Comfortable using technology and improving processes · Business-minded and growth-oriented Compensation & Benefits · $110,000–$150,000 base salary, depending on experience · Performance incentives tied to production and firm growth · 100% employer-paid health insurance · 401(k) with employer match · Paid time off and flexible scheduling · Direct access to firm ownership and decision-making · A professional, collaborative environment where leadership actually matters Location · In-office role · St. Louis, MO 63109 · Relocation required if not currently local Company Description The Wagner Company is a growing, advisory-first CPA firm that works closely with restaurant groups, real estate investors, and business owners who want more than basic compliance.
